Construction underway on Rocket Academy
Rocket Academy is a tuition-free, vocational charter school authorized by the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District
BELGIUM — Construction is progressing on Rocket Academy, a new charter school serving Sheboygan and Ozaukee counties.
Work began on the 12,000-square-foot $2 million facility in May and is expected to open in time for the 2024-2025 school year. Rocket Academy is a tuition-free, vocational charter school authorized by the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District. Students who attend will earn a high school diploma and a two-year degree from Lakeshore Technical College.
The building will consist of a classroom and lab space to certify high school juniors and seniors in skilled trades. Courses would be taught by certified LTC staff. Officials hope to fill high-demand jobs in the area with students who graduate from the school.
The property is owned by John Rassel, local entrepreneur and former President of Krier Foods. He purchased the land from Keith Sukowski. It is located at 255 Lakeview Drive in the Village of Belgium. Prior to Rassell purchasing the land, the Village had been receiving complaints about junk and unlicensed vehicles.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction announced in June it would be providing Rocket Academy with a $700,000 grant award for the purpose of planning, opening, or expanding the charter school. The Northern Ozaukee School District received $1 million from for Sugar Maple Nature School. Rocket Academy has received donations from local businesses and community stakeholders.
